What fascinates me the most about abstract painting is how elements on a canvas such as texture, marks, contrasting or harmonious colours work together to reveal moods and feelings that are present in our daily lives. I draw my inspiration from my surroundings, from the beauty of the Canadian Rockies to the architectural features of a big city to the simplicity and complexity of the everyday objects that surround us.
I create contemporary abstract paintings that are colourful, textural and intuitive. Texture is usually the starting point of a composition. I then apply layers of paint combined with acrylic medium and use removal techniques or add multiple layers until I see a clear direction the painting should go. At times imaginary landscapes emerge, other times moods or feelings are created through strong contrast or harmonious colours.
